Community Programs

Grant-funded and community supported programs increase access to diverse books for children, teens and adults around the city.

Art Room Library

This program is grant-funded by the Mass Cultural Council and the Medford Arts Council.

Book Wonder has partnered with Michelle Mazaka, art teacher at the Missituk Elementary School, to build an art room library representative of the school’s population. We curated and acquired a collection of recently-published picture books, graphic novels and reference books featuring Black and Brown Lives, People of Color, Women, Gender Expansive and LGBTQIA+ Individuals, Neurodiverse Characters and People with Disabilities.

We are working to collect books in English as well as languages most commonly used in our community including Spanish, Portuguese, French Creole, Chinese and Arabic dialects.

Bookshelf labeled "BIPOC & AAPI" with one graphic novel selected, titled "Anne of West Philly."

Additional Projects

Book Wonder has created diverse book collections for the Somerville Community Growing Center and Garden in the Woods. We donate books to area schools and community centers, and set up and maintain little free libraries on their grounds. We are currently creating our second Little Free Diverse Library at the Medford Family Network located at the high school.

Are you a teacher or community organization looking to develop your library to better reflect your students? Book Wonder will work within your budget to build your library. If possible, we will help you locate additional funding available in your community.
